Overhead Crane Training UK FAQS

What is an overhead crane?

An overhead crane is a piece of machinery designed to safely and efficiently lift and move heavy objects from one location to another. These cranes are most commonly used in the manufacturing, mining, steel production, chemical processing, and recycling industries.

Do you need training to use an overhead crane?

Operators must achieve a good level of understanding and skills to ensure the safe operation of an overhead crane, as outlined in the HSE publications of Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER) and Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER).

How often should overhead cranes be inspected?

It is a legal requirement that your crane be officially inspected at least once a year. However, your training course will teach you how to conduct daily inspections and the correct care and maintenance to ensure the crane runs smoothly and safely all year round.
