As of August 2022, we have also acquired a brand new Bendi Truck, which means we can now offer training for a wider range of pivot steer forklifts.

What is a Pivot Steer Forklift Truck?

Pivot steer forklifts, also known as Articulated Very Narrow Aisle Counterbalance Trucks or Bendi Trucks, are designed for narrow aisles that are more difficult to traverse than traditional forklifts. If the layout of your facility means you have narrower aisles, look no further than a Bendi forklift, as they can navigate aisles as narrow as 7 feet.

Benefits of a Pivot Steer Forklift

Bendi forklifts allow you to use smaller spaces and save money, as you will not have to extend your premises or move location if your business is growing. By installing narrow aisles, you can maximise your storage capacity by increasing the number of racks and shelves in your warehouse or facility.

You can also experience improved manoeuvrability with the Bendi Flexi Forklift’s articulated design and enhanced turning radius. These features allow it to turn in tight spaces and navigate around obstacles, leading to enhanced productivity with faster loading times.

FAQs

Is a forklift license a requirement?

There is no such thing as a forklift license as such. However, once you pass a forklift operator course, you will receive a certificate of basic training showing you are qualified to operate a forklift. This legal document physically allows you, along with valid authorisation, to operate the forklift. Despite being unable to offer a physical license, we can offer an ID card to accompany your certificate.

How regularly should I undergo forklift training?

There are no legal requirements to complete a refresher forklift training course after completing forklift training. However, you should take a refresher course on forklift operation whenever you feel it is necessary.

If you have not taken a refresher course in the last five years, the HSE recommends you look into taking a refresher course soon. This is to keep up with any advancements in forklift technologies and operational basics, as per HSE recommendations.

When does my forklift certificate expire?

Once you have achieved your certification for forklift operation, you have no obligation to take any refresher courses, as your certification will not expire. After completing your certification, you are advised to take refresher courses when you feel this is necessary, but this is not a legal requirement.

The guidelines from HSE state that you should complete refresher courses every 3 to 5 years. However, you may also want to take a refresher course if:

  • You haven’t operated a forklift truck for an extended period.
  • You have had an accident so would like to refresh your training.

Why should I complete a forklift training course?

Besides the fact you need to be certified before operating a bendi forklift truck, there are many reasons to take this course. You can gain valuable experience while you navigate the course and increase your confidence behind the wheel of a bendi forklift. Improving experience levels when operating a bendi pivot steer forklift is crucial to becoming a competent driver in your workplace. At HL Training, we can provide the tools and resources you need to succeed, so why not book a course with us today?

Forklift Operator Training FAQs

Does a forklift licence actually exist?

No, there is no such thing as a forklift licence in the UK. Operating a forklift truck safely requires sufficient training and experience, but this will provide you with a certificate instead of a license. Many jobs may require you to have a ‘forklift licence.’ Although confusing, this means you must have a certificate proving you completed a forklift training course.

How long does it take to complete the forklift training?

It’s all up to you and the training you require. Training for more experienced forklift truck drivers is 2-3 days, and refresher training is 1 day. For those starting from scratch, the novice training course will take 5 days to complete. Some candidates may require further training above the minimum recommended guidelines.

How often should I refresh my training?

This is down to whether you or your employer feels you need to refresh your skills. It is not a legal requirement to undertake additional training. However, the HSE recommends that operators complete refresher training every 3-5 years.

How much does forklift training cost?

The cost of forklift training is dependent on many factors. The level of training you require, whether in-centre or on site, and the type of training will influence the cost. Please contact our team today; we will gladly help with your inquiry.
